I woke one day to find a little extra money sitting in a money market making me 1.5% a year. The following year it was making 3%... amazing - 3% a year!

I decided my money ought to be put to better and more profitable use so I started looking into other kinds of business and franchise opportunities to invest in... but they all had a common problem - the financial investment was great and so was the investment of time... and as a father of four I just didn't have it.

After many years of 'hit and miss' trading I began thinking about trading as a real business. So about 2 1/2 years ago I began trading stocks and options just like a 'business'. I knew people were making a killing in the markets and I was determined to find them and learn everything they knew and so make a killing of my own.

I was determined to operate my trading like a business, not as a gambler or speculator. That meant I needed to look at opportunities, supply and demand and marketplace dynamics. Then approach and manage my business based on solid business fundamentals such as profit, loss, expenses, overhead and return on investment.

My only concern was the same as any business; to buy something that I could sell at a profit - and with enough profit margin to cover my expenses (although small) and provide me with a consistent and reliable income.

The challenge with operating a business based on the markets, is that it appears like they are consistently changing and there's too much risk!

As you're aware, the markets do go up and down from day to day!

I was very unsure which way the market would turn, and since I hated to lose money I tried to "predict" which way the market would go because that is how I BELIEVED money was made.

I got extremely good at 'technical analysis'... I BELIEVED it held the key to making a profit... if I knew where the market was going, I could easily make money, right?

I learned all about waves and candle sticks, MACD, ADX, CCI, Bollinger Bands and Fibonacci and hundreds of chart 'patterns'... and therefore I believed I 'knew' something about the way the market would go!

Frankly, these indicators are simply crutches - they help to reinforce and validate the trading theories you've already formed in your mind. They don't help you be a better trader or see market reality. There's just 3 technical indicators you need to operate this business: support, resistance and trend lines. That's all. I keep it simple. Keeping it simple is the way to make money.

I also found the TOP 1% of all traders operate in the EXACT opposite way to what I tried to do when I first began (predict the market)... The truth is...

Top traders only manage risk

they NEVER try to predict the market.

Most of the elite traders don't care if the market goes up or down - they make money either way. They use charts sparingly.

All top traders do is manage their risk and take advantage of the only truths of the market - the ONLY absolute truths of the market.

For stocks that ONE Absolute Truth is this:

1) All stocks fluctuate in price.

For options there are two Absolute Truths:

1) All options fluctuate in price and

2) All options expire.
